I love how everything is black and white and still looks better than most RTP/custom shit. Your game seems so cool I might actually download it, which I do very rarely with other people's games.. and was it really done with the rm2k3? Wow.

Advanced Battle Animations using the battlechar sprites? (RM2k3)

Don't worry, this is actually pretty easy:

Skills > > Animation (not battle animation, right next to it) > Set > Pose >

basically you make the animation of the sprite blank, but you make the battle animation for the skill itself involve the sprite hacking up the enemy or whatever you want.

This way, you can still have a general "Skill Use" pose but not make your game sucky.

How do some of you complete games so fast?

A good strategy for completing a game very quickly is to not use any custom sprites or sound effects or music etc. That should save you about 50-60 hours. Hell, just come up with an idea for a game that's only an hour or even 30 minutes long, then you'll complete it in no time!

More seriously though, if you are using custom stuff, then make your game revolve around what you draw/compose best. I was only good at drawing tilesets for dungeons, so I made an RPG that took place in just one dungeon. This isn't exactly the best suggestion but at the very least I can tell you it's the only reason I've ever completed a game.

Making a character temporarily invincible (or at least close >_>) during battle? (RM2K)

Eh, I personally have found the graphics of XP & VX to be a bit too cartoon-ish for my liking. Dunno why...also, it's not as intuitive as far as scripting goes. I'm sure I COULD learn how to do it, but it seems far too much effort to be worth it right now. Maybe on one of my later projects so I don't have to redo a ton of stuff.

Let's be clear, I hate XP and VX also (especially VX), so I was really suggesting rm2k3 over rm2k (this is doubly helpful to you because most people probably don't have rm2k on their computers anymore and so it makes it difficult to tell you what your options are). But thanks at least for being rational and not frothing out the mouth like halibabica.

Making a character temporarily invincible (or at least close >_>) during battle? (RM2K)

Well then I have a suggestion: don't use rm2k. It sucks.

Just thought I'd add to the people saying Lennon's customs are cool. I really like the style.

Here's the title screen for a game I'll probably never finish, also custom obviously.

(The font sucks, I'll fix it etc).

Horrible Game Endings

author=Fallen-Griever link=topic=1002.msg76967#msg76967 date=1243374911
Halo games have terrible beginnings and middles as well.

Heart.

Anyways, Star Fox 64's ending is stupid. I mean the 'secret' one. And I never liked Illusion of Gaia's ending, maybe because it involved lots of reading.

Also Mario 3 - wtf? So is your princess in another castle or not? Gay...

edit: Oh and the Chrono Trigger ending where the robot cries - robots don't cry, stupid!

Making a character temporarily invincible (or at least close >_>) during battle? (RM2K)

Have him start off as an enemy with all of the resistance (I'm pretty sure 100% resistance to an element is possible, at least in the rm2k3) and then after a switch is activated or a certain number of turns, have him activate a "transform" ability into an exact duplicate but without invincibility. Very easy, no?

Racial Diverstiy In RPG's

I'm thinking of making an all-black RPG (like the Malcolm X movie). It'll be called "Supa Quest". It'll heavily plagiarize Boondocks. Yeah...

Does anyone remember the stereotyped Jamaican guy in Earthbound who said "mon" all the time? Maybe the reason RPG's are so racially homogeneous is because we've been conditioned at a young age by our favourite RPG's to all be a bunch of racist nerds.

Has anyone pointed out that most RPGs take place in a fantasy universe (that is typically not Earth)?

This proves my point - you're saying that your fantasy (ie ideal) world would have no black people in it. Shame on you, you white supremacist, you!

(I know some people on this forum aren't that sharp, so I'll make it clear that very little of this post is serious, just so that this doesn't snowball into something stupid). Also, geodude is a riot

The best modern RPG Maker games?

There's this game called Mystic Quest on the rpg maker that really sucks. At least I think it was made with the rpg maker..
